With our first home bout of the season just around the corner, we'd like to recognize and thank the very important people who work "Behind the Scenes" to make our bouts successful! This week we're highlighting the voice of the MAD Girls: Our charasmatic Master of Ceremonies, The Mad Chatter!
.) How did you become involved with the MAD Girls and how long have you been helping out? MC: "My wife actually saw on Facebook that Mankato was starting a women's roller derby team and was looking for a game announcer. She suggested that I contact the MAD Girls, which I did, and the rest is history. I am proud to be the only play-by-play announcer the team has ever had."
.) What do you do for the team as an MC? MC: "I announce everything that happens during the game. I love doing the starting line-ups, and then I call the action and give 'shout-outs' to MAD Girl Sponsors, interview people at halftime, and sometimes try out some crazy voice impersonations."
.) What's the toughest part about being an MC? MC: "The toughest thing can be filling time during long time-outs. I find myself thinking, 'C’mon refs! Let’s get this action started again,' as I try and keep the energy up."
.) What do you love most about roller derby? MC: "Everything. The skaters are awesome people, and I truly enjoy having a part in the MAD Girl bouts. I love telling people that my other job is being the voice of a women's roller derby team. The most common response is, 'That is so cool.' Which it is."
